Costa Rica will celebrate its most popular dish with the 5th annual
FIESTA NACIONAL DEL GALLO PINTO
Gallo Pinto Festival
This National Festival celebrates Costa Rica's national dish - GALLO PINTO

THIS Sunday - March 18, 2012  -  9am-3pm

This is a SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENT!!!
Approximately 10,000 FREE dishes of gallo pinto (using 80,000 kilos of rice and 50,000 kilos of beans!!) will be served promoting this Costa Rican classic dish!
Festivities also include activities for children (like storytelling), live music (Tico Jazz Band+), comedy acts (Chico Loco and Mauricio Astorga), folk dancing, parades++.
Gallo Pinto (translates to “spotted rooster” or "spreckled rooster") is a traditional dish often mixing rice and black beans, onion, chile dulce/sweet red peppers, cilantro, various "spices" (NOT as in spicy/picante) and the Costa Rican staple Salsa Lizano - that is commonly found on many plates (breakfast, lunch AND dinner) in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
Leading the 50 person team preparing all this gallo pinto will be Hotel Plaza Ramada Herradura's executive chef Carlos Castrillo.  The team will include students from the National Learning Institute (INA) and private universities.
La Fiesta del Gallo Pinto is being dedicated this year to Consejo Nacional de Cooperativas (CONACoop).

Festival des Artes • FIA is also going on nearby in Sabana Park so come on out and make a day of it!
