Commuters and travelers, be advised.  The president of the Costa Rican Chamber of Porteadores, which represents the country’s unofficial private taxis, said that the Porteadores plan to obstruct traffic in 76 different locations throughout the entire country tomorrow.

The protest comes after a year and a half of disagreements between the Porteadores  and the government surrounding Law 8955 which contains regulations for the industry.

Chamber president, German Wolf, said the government is responsible for tomorrow’s action, saying that his Chamber has been asking authorities to resolve their grievances for a year and a half.   The Porteadores are also upset about delays in the issuance of 4,000 operating permits.

The Chamber said the only possibility of dialogue to resolve the conflict would be a direct conversation with the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Pedro Castro, who they claim has abandoned his post in the hands of an assistant.
