MARKETING HINTS - Facebook - SHORTENING YOUR ADDRESS

Facebook Business Pages are a GREAT FREE Marketing TOOL for businesses - IF you know what you're doing and are willing to "WORK IT"!!

When you first start your page it automatically makes a REALLY LONG address (url) - something like:

http://facebook.com/page/abners-custom-costa-rica-tours/3849717484923912716

But looking at most of the Business Pages I've seen, it doesn't look like many owners realize that they can go in and customize and MEGA shorten that address:

EXAMPLE:
http://facebook.com/AbnersCustomCostaRicaTours 
or better yet:

fb.com/AbnersCustomCostaRicaTours

SO HOW DO YOU SHORTEN YOUR FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE ADDRESS?

First off, if it's a new page, sometimes Facebook REQUIRES you have 30 "Likes" to change the address so just ask your friends online at that moment to "Like" your page

Log into your personal Facebook page.
Go to your Business page.
Click “Edit Page” (top right corner area)
Click “Update Page Info”
Go to “Facebook Web Address” & click “Edit”

Type whatever you want your Facebook URL/Web address to be.

HINT - I’d make the first letter in EACH WORD in CAPITAL so it will make it easier for people to figure out what it is & if they can figure it out, they have a better chance of remembering it!!

EXAMPLES:

So you can go from:

http://facebook.com/page/abners-custom-costa-rica-tours/3849717484923912716

to:

http://facebook.com/AbnersCustomCostaRicaTours   
(looks LOTS more like a REAL URL/web address - eh??!!!)

But if you don’t capitalize each letter, it looks like:

http://facebook.com/abnerscustomcostaricatours

(to ME it does not help give me ease in figuring it out plus it does not look professional)

MAKING IT EVEN SHORTER: 

In your promotions you can just do

http://fb.com/AbnersCustomCostaRicaTours

and THAT WILL work as well and when you're posting it anywhere on your promotional things (NOT on a website where you want to create a link.  More like on business cards, fliers, etc.) you can make it even shorter by just writting:

fb.com/AbnersCustomCostaRicaTours 

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

http://

Also, when posting things on the internet, ALWAYS type http:// before because that’s code that almost always will create a link.  If you just put www.___ it does NOT always make a link & if you have a link, you have MUCH better chances of people going there vs a link not in place.

Unless a website was configured INcorrectly, you do NOT need www. - it’s just filler that takes away from YOUR message:

http://www.facebook.com/AbnersCustomCostaRicaTours
vs
http://facebook.com/AbnersCustomCostaRicaTours

FINISHED?

Remember to “SAVE CHANGES”! 
(at that time they will ask for your Facebook Password so they know it’s you making the change)
