ELECTRICITY RATES in Costa Rica - ANOTHER INCREASE - 15% - July 1, 2014




The cost of electricity will increase up to 15% across the country on July 1st, 2014 following an announcement by the Regulatory Authority for Public Services (ARESEP).

The rate hikes are the result of increasing generation costs due to water shortages, according to the regulator.

The amount of the rate hikes varies by utility.  The following are the proposed increases, set to take effect on July 1st:

ICE – 15.57%
CNFL – 14.55%
JASEC – 12.02%
ESPH – 12.01%
COOPEGuanacaste – 8.45%
Coopesantos – 7.19%
RUIZ CoopeAlfaro – 10.23%

I ask this as I'm writing this from Florida where I'm talking to LOTS of people and so far EVERYONE I've asked and tells me the price of their electricity bill - it's LOTS CHEAPER in FLORIDA than in Costa Rica!!!!!!!!!!!  INCLUDING how much people with air conditioning that like it cold!!!!
