THANX to a new tax on cigarettes (FINALLY!!!), starting Monday May 15, 2012, smokers will be paying +400-colones (.80-cents U.S.) for a pack of cigarettes (20 in a pack)!!!
The majority of the tax collected will be used towards diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tobacco related diseases.
Even with this new tax, Costa Rica STILL ranks one of the lowest countries in the WORLD for prices for tobacco products
WORLD ACCORDING TO VICKI COMMENTS:
I say JACK that price up as WAYYYY more people suffer/die each year from cigarette related problems!! Making the price higher WILL get MANY to either cut back, or ideally quit!!!
