I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.

POAS VOLCANO "PHREATIC Eruption" (NOT the dangerous kind of "eruption")



THE Tico Times reported
"BREAKING: Eruption at Poás Volcano captured on OVSICORI-UNA's camera on Tuesday at 12:03 p.m. More details coming."
WELL - those “details” they were finally given is that it was
NOT NOT NOT an “Eruption” as WE think of as an eruption but a
PHREATIC EXPLOSION
 a sudden release of steam, water, rock, and ash - so all is safe!




FROM THE BEST SITE FOR CURRENT INFO ON VOLCANOS AND EARTHQUAKES IN COSTA RICA

Today, February 25, 2014 at about noon, there was a significant phreatic eruption (water, hot gases and lake sediments) in Laguna Caliente Poas volcano. This possibly occurs in response to the temperature rise in the Dome and filament observed at night since December 2013. Tomorrow, volcanology staff of the National Seismological Network, go to Costa Rica volcano for more details of this event.

Hoy 25 de febrero a eso del medio día, ocurrió una importante erupción freática (agua, gases calientes y sedimentos del lago) en la Laguna Caliente del volcán Poás. Esto posiblemente se da por en respuesta al aumento de temperatura en el Domo e incandescencia que se observa en las noches desde diciembre del 2013. El día de mañana, personal de vulcanología de la Red Sismológica Nacional, Costa Rica irán al volcán para obtener mayor detalle de este evento. En la fotografía adjunta se muestra una erupción que ocurrió el 25 de diciembre del 2009, similar a la ocurrida el día de hoy.
