SEGURO•INS INSURANCE PAYMENTS - What if you are Late on Paying it - Risk GOING TO JAIL in Costa Rica
OMGoddess!! Someone just posted on one of the Facebook groups that:
"Forgot to pay my personal seguro•INS•CAJA, so OIJ cam to the office to ARREST me...I was still home so they called and I just asked them if they had not something better to do like running after thieves? They said that if I don't present myself to the fiscal in 15 min, they will send an arrest warrant??????"
Someone else shared:
"This happened to an employee of mine too. They were very efficient and took him all the way to Limon to lock him up for missing a payment on his bike after an accident that landed him in the hospital. It really is an odd way to prioritize the use of limited resources."
Don't EVEN think of messing with this these days - PAY YOUR SEGURO•INS insurance - ins-cr.com/index.html - ON TIME - or risk the OIJ (Costa Rican form of FBI) coming knocking at your door and hauling your #$* off to jail till you pay it!!!
So next time someone is holding your family up and has a gun to your 4 year olds head in a Home Invasion and you're trying to find an OIJ agent - call INS and see if there's one out in your area!!
Peeps complaining about the U.S. - Don't EVEN THINK of bitching about how the U.S. is becoming such a Police State!!!

THRIFT SHOPS • ROPA AMERICANA stores in Costa Rica
Costa Rica hardly has any Thrift Shops (MANY Tico's just give their things to family members) and I've hardly heard of•seen any Thrift Shops that carry household things/furniture.
What Costa Rica DOES have LOTS of which are mainly for buying clothes and occasional light household things (though RARELY furniture) are called:
"ROPA AMERICANA'S"
SCHOOL BOOKS - FREE Online in Costa Rica (THANX to the Imprenta Nacional!!!)
Just when parents of public school children are struggling to make ends
meet for the start of classes February 6, 2013, the Imprenta Nacional has come to
the rescue.
The national printing operation is better known for the La Gaceta official newspaper and even the election ballots. But Tuesday the agency announced that it has placed all the required books for the coming school year online in digital format. The books can either be read online or downloaded. And the books are free.
Jorge Vargas, director of the Imprenta Nacional got the credit for putting the books online. And also included are some of the legal books, including the "Ley de Cobros Judicial," the new system for demanding payment, and even the country's constitution.
Of course, all the books are in Spanish, giving expats a chance to improve their language skills and cultural knowledge. There is a section on books by Costa Rica writers, including the famous "Los Cuentos de mi Tía Panchita" by Carmen Lyra, the pen name of María Isabel Carvajal Quesada.
The Imprenta, in an announcement, said that all the texts are available legally. They are either government works or long out of copyright. For example, Ms. Carvajal died in 1949, and her book was published in 1920.
Other selections include "City of God," the Fifth century book by St. Augustine of Hippo. It is called "La Ciudad de Dios" in Spanish. Victor Hugo's work, called "Los Miserables" in Spanish is there, too, as well as the picaresque adventures of Lazarillo de Tormes, a must for any student of Spanish literature and perhaps even more so because it was banned by the Inquisition.
Also available are a selection of children's books as well as "Sherlock Holmes" in Spanish. The menu is at
