"MY LIFE AS CRAZY QUILT"
Annette Hallett, Director of the next Little Theatre Group • LTG production, describes it as a collection of short plays that explore extraordinary interactions occurring between ordinary people. It promises to be a very entertaining evening that will both amuse and touch the hearts of the audience.
ABOUT THE CAST:
Annette says - "I wanted to use some actors that were not quite so well known and perhaps attract some new faces to our stage, and I am thrilled to say that I succeeded. I am so excited by the talent that I have to work with that I cannot wait for opening night when our audience will have the chance to see them."
THE PLAYS:
'The Visit", by Norm Foster, is a comedic study of the family dynamic between Rhonda, who some might describe as a domineering mother, her husband Lloyd, and their son Richard, who chooses an unfortunate moment to share a long held secret.
"Fortunata Writes a Letter", by Theodore Apstein, is set in an unspecified Central American country during the 1930s. it is a heart warming and gently amusing scene between two simple folk about the merits of chickens, hot sauce, and a letter to El Presidente.
If you have ever found yourself stuck with an elderly and cantankerous relative with whom you have little in common then "Outdoor Pleasures", by Jean McConnell, will probably seem familiar. Diedre, a 30-something social climber, and her Aunty Tottie, a difficult and unwelcome weekend visitor, are all set to enjoy an outdoor production of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" ...or are they?
2 years ago the women of La Carpio, a community composed largely of Nicaraguan immigrants living in low socio-economic conditions, were persuaded to each sew a fabric square describing an incident or circumstance of their life, which were then incorporated into a quilt.
"Voices of the Quilt", a work developed in conjunction with
GAIL NYSTROM's

is a collection of short monologues that tell the stories. Although
spoken in English for this production, it is our intention to translate
these monologues so that they can one day be performed by the women
themselves.

The Women of La Carpio...and the quilt
"When I first knew the women, they were quite timid and shy. We began to work together, to know each other better. Volunteers and good hearted people gave of their talents and their knowledge and their wishes to the women. We have been sewing this "quilt" for years together. Last night, we all gathered together, thirty of us, prior to the LTG production. I looked around that room and I saw their shining faces, their beautiful clothes and the way they sit, right next to each other. Each caring for the other, the children passed from lap to lap as needed, making a little prayer for the actors in the play to give them wisdom and understanding and connection to the character they were playing. What these women have done, with their lives and their strength is astounding. They have survived the worst kinds of hardships and have prevailed with grace and dignity. They have created a work of art that is full of hope for all people because it shows how they were able to make a real life after their hard times. They are choosing their own paths with their own power and are making real change ...they do this for themselves and for all of us...So many thanks to the Little Theater Group and to Annette for catching on to the true meaning of this quilt and believing in us..."
