I first saw a story on Bimbo's "Expendio" Day-Old baked goods (back in MY youth, we called them "Bakery Thrift Shops") on Dolores' AWESOME blog on great deals (heavily in Grecia and San Jose but she's expanding to other areas around Costa Rica now!!!)
So when I was in Grecia I HAD to go and check it out and I've been to Bimbo Expendio a few times and found some GREAT DEALS - ESPECIALLY the Integral Bread for like 900 colones which in the market are like 1,215-c!! I just immediately put it in the freezer (though you KNOW that processed breads seem to be able to stay out WEEKS after the expiration date!)!!
I went for this - just 2,000-c (around
$4) for a BIG bag of the not so good for you cupcakes and things which I
took over to Hospital San Francisco and gave to people that helped my
friend I took there (trust me - being nice to people and showing
appreciation goes a LONG way in life - plus it makes YOU feel good also
knowing you've brought a SMILE to someone's day!!!).
