COMMENTS FROM FRIENDS:
HONORING OUR FRIEND, ANA SAMMIS
Ana passed on in Costa Rica on April 29, 2014
We will miss you, Ana. We enjoyed so much having you join us in our home for various Movie Nights, Speakers Forums, and book study groups. We feel that you have transitioned to a beautiful and peaceful realm, and are happily reuniting with family and friends from the past. May your spiritual journey continue in the Highest Light of Love and Joy and Rediscovery, into Infinity, and always know that you are loved and are part of our minds and our hearts.
Your friends, Sam and Karen Butler

In Memoriam
Ana Sammis
Our dear friend Ana was the embodiment of an "old soul". Behind the self effacing and sometimes anxious expression on her face lurked a powerful and creative force who gave of her self freely and with great love. The material world is never an easy place for such individuals, and so Ana's path was frequently challenging. Nonetheless she lived her life well and shared her many talents and gifts with all who knew her. She will be remembered.
from her friends at the Little Theatre Group

An interesting situation happened a few months ago when a rumor was going around that Ana had passed away.
I knew that wasn't possible as I had just run into her 2 days before at the Atenas Chili Cook-Off and she was VERY MUCH alive and happy - and sharing stories about what she was up to and how much she missed spending time at Pico Blanco Hotel in Escazu and how she was dreading Rainy Season because of all the humidity and mold - and about the Budhist group she was now going to in Atenas. She shared stories about how getting to be in a production with the Little Theatre Group was so special for her! She was SOOO FULL of that childlike Ana energy!!
The cool thing that came out of that rumor is MANY people RE-Connected with Ana because of that and she SOOOO felt the LOVE from everyone which made her HAPPY!

QUOTES
Do you have any quotes or songs you'd like to share here?
ON DEATH
(From Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet")
"For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind
and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing,
but to free the breath from its restless tides,
that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence
shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top,
then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs,
then shall you truly dance."

"Peace! Peace! She is not dead, she does not sleep,
She is awakened from the dream of life."

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU DIE IN COSTA RICA
We never know when it's our time to go! We could be healthy and fit and drop suddenly in our 50s from a heart attack • We could live to 100! We don't know when our partner might go and the person that we thought would take care of everything isn't there to help us. We could be single and have no one to help us.
Being PREPARED is CRUCIAL - to bring us and those we say we care about Peace of Mind!!
Like MANY ExPats living in Costa Rica, Ana passed away owning a home and without having a will or making arrangements for what to do with her body or her things.
ONE of these days, I (Vicki Skinner) will bring people together
(as well as create a document for those that are interested but can't attend)
to help people learn what all they can/should do to make it easier for those left behind to honor your wishes like:
• Have NO costs involved when you die when you Donate your body to the medical school•science
• Get 1/2 price off cremation
• The IMPORTANCE of having a Will (if you don't have that and own anything and have no family - your possessions go to the government!! I'll find a lawyer that speaks English and does not charge gringo prices)
• Even if you do not own anything, the IMPORTANCE of having a Power of Attorney with someone you TRUST to follow up on your wishes/take care of things (and that it mentions it's still valid even upon your death - otherwise it's a wasted paper)
• What the U.S. Embassy can/can't do (if you're from another country, I'll get the contact name for you to look into it)
• The importance of having a list of your contacts, accounts, passwords, family/friends, etc. with someone you TRUST - to be prepared!
• The process NEEDED when someone passes away in Costa Rica
and LOTS MORE!!
This is CRUCIAL INFORMATION•THINGS we MUST DO!!
We can NOT bury our head in the sand or we inflict LOTS of hassle and extra grief on those we CLAIM we love!!
If you're interested, please email me a note writing in the "Subject" line
