I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.

Dulce de Leche - CARAMEL in a Can!!!! Sweets in Costa Rica


One of my FAVORITE tastes in the world is CARAMEL!!  When I got to McDonald's to get a Caramel Sundae I ask for EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA Caramel - a layer of Caramel, a little ice cream & more caramel on top!!!

If you're used to YUMMY North American or European Sweets•Desserts, you don't come to Costa Rica (heck, from what I've experienced or heard from others, Latin America in general overall) for the sweets, desserts or pastries. 

BUT - one thing I've found they've done right (based on MY taste buds) is . . .
DULCE DE LECHE!!
aka - CARAMEL in a CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!



WHAT IS DULCE DE LECHE?
It looks like they've basically taken a can of Sweet & Condensed Milk (I THINK that's called Leche Condensada) & cooked it for a long time which turned it into Caramel - for the SAME PRICE!!


For those of you CRAVING Caramel but don't have Dulce de Leche near you, here's a recipe to make it yourself:
