WHERE TO FIND ART SUPPLIES
in Costa Rica

Finding Art Supplies in Costa Rica is quite the challenge and usually LOTS more expensive than most of us are used to so if you're an artistic type, this IS one thing you may want to bring with you when you move to Costa Rica - or have people bring from the U.S. and Canada as you can find LOTS of things online for LOTS cheaper!!

With that said - at least here are some places you can find them:

ESCAZU - San Rafael

ART DEPOT

Art Depot seems to be one of the BEST stores in Costa Rica for Art supplies!!  They have many thing for arts and crafts. They offer information on art classes also.  Prices are not cheap though (art supplies in Costa Rica aren't cheap period!)

DELIVERY•EXPRESS

They'll even DELIVER•EXPRESS things to you so you don't need to come all the way into the city as you can order online!!  If you're in the GAM - Metropolitan Central Valley area it's delivered to your door.  All other areas it's sent via "Encomienda" which goes by bus to your area.  Order it in the morning and you should have it the next day at the latest (depending on bus frequency).  They can even send it via NatureAir flight if you NEED it FAST!!

The Home Depot of Costa Rica - a hardware store has some artist supply things in the Paint Department - They mainly just have paint things like "Americana Paint" in tubes (a country paint) and some of those small bottles, glaze, some sort of spray on the paint (hey - I'm not an artist!!), brushes and stencils.

It's taken me at least 2 years to find this store but I FINALLY DID!!!  This lamp and shade business has a showroom that does sales of lamps and LAMP SHADES, REPAIRS and sales of all related PARTS as well.

LOCATION:  San Jose-Downtown - The main traffic comes up Paseo Colon and at the North/East corner across from Hospital San de Dios Hospital is a this showroom (sorry I don’t have the name).  Paseo Colon turns/veers Right on Calle 14, and then Left onto Avenida 2. If a car didn't make that right turn from Paseo Colon it would plow into the lamp store. In other words, on the corner of Avenida 0/Central and Calle 14.

Monnry Lighting and Home Accents

Monnry has a very large selection of lamps, decorative things, flameless candles, decorative candles ($$$$), a few Lamp Shades, some Fountains, furniture.

CERAMICA LAS PALOMAS

She said they looked great, and the price is right (around 5,000-c each).  Maybe you can funk them up yourself (go to a Pasamaneria - a store to get sewing notion type things and more!!  MY FAV is Pasamaneria Louisa in Centro Escazu - http://LivingLifeInCostaRica.blogspot.com/2011/05/sewing-notions-pasamanerias-escazu.html)!!  They also have the HARPS to hold the lampshades (600-c!!!).  Paul speaks several languages including English.

Behind MultiPlaza on the corner in front of the road that goes back to Paco is a electrical supply distributor on the 1st floor and upstairs is a great display of ceramic tile.  (I can't verify this yet so if you find the answer, please let me know).

It's taken me at least 2 years to find this store but I FINALLY DID!!!  This lamp and shade business has a showroom that does sales of lamps and LAMP SHADES, REPAIRS and sales of all related PARTS as well.

LOCATION:  San Jose-Downtown - The main traffic comes up Paseo Colon and at the North/East corner across from Hospital San de Dios Hospital is a this showroom (sorry I don’t have the name).  Paseo Colon turns/veers Right on Calle 14, and then Left onto Avenida 2. If a car didn't make that right turn from Paseo Colon it would plow into the lamp store. In other words, on the corner of Avenida 0/Central and Calle 14.
