Have a Heart golf tourney again planned for Feb. 14

The 13th Annual “Have a Heart” Charity Golf Tournament will be held Feb. 14 at the Hacienda Pinilla golf course.

The annual Valentine’s Day event is the major fundraiser for Amigos de la Educación Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to underprivileged youth and helps improve school infrastructure.

Registration for the golf tournament is available at the Amigos’ office in Tamarindo, Plaza Tamarindo, Suite A-10, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5pm.

The registration fee includes a cocktail party at Villa Alegre BandB in Playa Langosta Feb. 12 at 7 p.m., nine holes of complementary practice golf at Hacienda Pinilla Feb. 13, and all the Valentine’s Day festivities the following day, said the organization.

That includes breakfast, golf tournament, and an awards luncheon with a silent auction and raffle.

Amigos de la Educación helps students and schools in Cartagena, 27th de Abril, Villarreal, Huacas, El LLanito, La Garita, Matapalo and Portegolpe.

Help PREVENT Theft•Crimes in Costa Rica (ESPECIALLY around Christmas•Navidad)

Christmas anti-crime effort Police come out with annual List of Warnings As the Christmas season approaches, the Fuerza Pública steps up its program of crime prevention. Officials recognize that many Costa Ricans receive their annual Aguinaldo or Christmas bonus, thereby providing attractive targets for thieves. With the increase use of credit cards there in not as much cash in the streets as in previous years, but thieves are a resourceful bunch who come up with new strategies when needed. The security ministry came out with 39 suggestions Monday for citizen to avoid criminals. Most are pretty routine: Don't flash sums of money in a bar.  Don't accept help from strangers.  Keep personal financial information to yourself. The ministry also warned residents about business deals offered by unknown persons. Some of the suggestions are new this year. The ministry urged residents to keep an eye on glass windows while shopping to spot any possible criminals nearby in the reflection. It also urged residents to report any strangers lurking near their homes. The ministry and its Fuerza Pública also urged citizens DO NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT resist robbers!!! (one of my best friends in Costa Rica got shot in the leg - right in front of her 7 year old - because she did that!!) The Fuerza Pública said that there were  3,466 complaints filed with the Judicial Investigating Organization last December. Juan José Andrade Morales, the director general of the Fuerza Pública, said that national-level athletes and performers have joined a campaign to raise public awareness. They include Gabriela Traña, who runs marathons;  Leonardo Chacón, who represented the country at the Olympics in the triathalon;  Patrick Pemberton, a soccer star, and two musical groups, Korporación and Grupo Percance. The presentation of these national figures was accompanied by a visit of a blue Santa, who wore the colors of a police officer. Police have erected a total of 13 watchtowers at key locations to keep an eye on crowds. What members of the cult formerly organization known as "Children of God" claim they're helping a government organization in Costa Rica????

SCARY "STUFF" POSSIBLY Happening in Costa Rica!!!!

(NOT the word I'm REALLY saying) 

Do you remember the cult that, amongst MANY other names - was known as "Children of God" and has some pretty HORRIFIC stories shared by members - especially children that were former members (including one VERY famous Hollywood star that admitted what happened to him [before he died from a drug overdose] and another that made videos interview people on the topic - before HE killed one of his alleged perpetrators and turned the gun on himself) and ALL SORTS of international investigations went on about it (sound familiar but can't recall?  Google it and ESPECIALLY look on YouTube.com)  

Well - RIGHT THERE on their website (now under ANOTHER name [with many of the same people STILL involved]) they claim to be helping with a certain Costa Rica governmental organization.

Let's just say, based on how MOST people's history goes (since VERY few people seem to break old childhood patterns and just keep passing their shit down to their children and on and on through MANY generations) - this is a VERY SCARY pairing if you ask me.  

Don't governmental organizations in Costa Rica HEAVILY research groups that get involve with them????  ESPECIALLY in THIS situation - with who they are supposed to be helping!!!!

There are former members living in Costa Rica also!  A quite famous one at that!

El Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) informa a la población  que no se encuentra efectuando ningún tipo de llamadas telefónicas o enviando mensajes de texto a los clientes para promocionar la campaña navideña Respondé y ganá con Kölbi.

Sobre el concurso Respondé y ganá con Kölbi, la empresa advierte que la mecánica del concurso es enviar mensajes al 8883 con la palabra Juego, el cliente interactúa con una serie de preguntas que se van realizando, hasta que el participante lo decida, el ICE recolecta los datos con un notario público, y se contacta al finalista telefónicamente los martes y viernes para responder otra pregunta.

El ICE alerta a los clientes para que no sean víctimas de fraude y hace un llamado para que no realicen transacciones o brinden información personal a desconocidos.

Motorcyclists protested again Tuesday November 26, 2012
After the government refused to met with them they ALL rode together from the INS (National Insurance Institute) building in Downtown San Jose - blocking major intersections as well as the General Cañas Highway - causing some BIG TIME traffic backup - as they made their way up to the Presidential Palace in Zapote where they ended up sieging the entrances for 3 hours.

They were basically protesting INS and the increase in the Marchamo.
(what gets me is the Marchamo in Costa Rica includes Liability Insurance and if I'm basing on what I see on the street WHO causes and has the MOST accidents - I'd say MOTORCYCLISTS who OFTEN seem to have a Death Wish.  So perhaps some of the increase is because of THEIR actions?????  Ya think??)

The U.S. Embassy even made a WARNING to the U.S. citizens (probably because one of the recent protests ended up in violence - but also to forewarn Americans that foreigners are NOT permitted to get involved in protests, etc.)

COMMON-LAW "Marriage" • “Union Libre” in Costa Rica

In Costa Rica you (currently JUST a man and a woman) are considered Common-Law (“Union Libre”) after living together JUST 3 years - hence - entitled to all the same rights as a married couple.  To prove it, you just need a couple witnesses and a judge.  

If you want Alimony, you must file it within 2 years of separation.

Not together less than 3 years?  You’re not entitled to any $$ legally. (I’m not sure how Implied Promise type things - like the man promised to take care of her forever, or she quit her job for him or something.  Anyone know?).

Had kids together?  That’s a separate Paternity/child support case (Law 8101 Ley de Paternidad Responsable).

A group of over 60 people marched through Paseo Colon yesterday, with the message “we are functional parents, not ATM machines.”

The march was to demand men’s rights, and to demand the creation of an institute that could provide them with protection and support when assaulted by their partners or facing unfair legal treatment.

The protest began at about 10:00am yesterday in Paseo Colon, and proceeded towards the central Park in San Jose. There, the group spoke about various problems that men face in a family environment.

Eugenia Quesada, director of the foundation “Support to Men Institute” (FUNDIAPHO, in Spanish), said they are demanding the government to create an “Institute for Men.”

“We also want to eliminate jail for not paying alimony and child support, demand serious punishment for noncompliance of visiting hours (for parent-child visits), and we want the domestic violence act to be applied equally to both sexes, and not only to be for women’s protection,” she added.

According to the director of FUNDIAPHO, they receive about 9 men per day requesting legal and psychological counsel.

Yesterday’s march was dedicated to Isai Ramirez, a man who spent 6 months in jail because he was not able to pay 8 million colons (about $16,000) in alimony that he owed his ex wife. According to Quesada, facing jail, he ran and hid in the mountains to avoid arrest.

“We want others to see the situations that many men go through, with domestic violence, child support and alimony payments that they can’t make, as well as other situations,” said Quesada.

Both men and women participated in the march.

I wouldn't even touch this as you and I could have the SAME package sent to us from the SAME person, SAME markings (just different names) and have 2 TOTALLY different experiences!!

With that said - the MOST POSITIVE stories I'm hearing are from people having things sent to them at their regular Costa Rica PO Box. 

Another hint I got for packages sent via Federal Express is as SOON as you have the AirBill number - IMMEDIATELY CALL Federal Express in Costa Rica and NOTIFY them of it as they can often get some things through IF they have them on their manifest before they go there.  Also add a note "Personal - Used . . . "
