ABOUT THE LIVING LIFE IN COSTA RICA BLOG

I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.
VOLUNTEER TO HELP:
Better yet - do you have extra time on your hands & looking for a volunteer project? Since this blog is a labor of love & RARELY does anyone share a donation (even though MANY have said how much it's helped them), I could REALLY use help updating info. BIESANZ WOODWORKS - BEAUTIFUL Bowls, Platters, Jewelry Boxes & more (GREAT gifts) - HAND MADE Costa Rica (Escazu)

 Barry Biesanz working his magic!!!

If you really love wood with spectacular color and figure,

BIESANZ WOODWORKS
Biesanz.com
is the place to go.

Biesanz Woodworks make wood sculpture, bowls, humidors, jewelry boxes, business card boxes, boxes to put engagement and wedding rings in, cigarette boxes, boxes to put lipstick in, boxes to put the junk that accumulates by your nightstand in, boxes for the Burton-Taylor diamond, and especially boxes to put other boxes in (set of 4 boxes, the smallest of which is only half an inch long)  Also combs, gavels, martial arts swords, Kleenex boxes, earring racks, rings, bracelets, necklaces, chopsticks, pegs to hang a guitar from…

No dyes or stains, and every piece has gorgeous wood, and all of it is unconditionally guaranteed.

Many heads of state and celebrities have their products, including Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Queen Sofia of Spain, the Pope, and all of the Latin American presidents.   However their reputation has made their designs widely copied, so look for the signature.

These are the REAL THING (MANY out there are copying it - even having them shipped out to be made in China)!!

Prices vary from small inexpensive boxes and wooden jewelry at about $10 up to $2,000 for the famous sculptural bowls.  They sell in art galleries in the U.S. for double the price.

If you go to the workshop, you can get factory seconds for big discounts.

If you don’t want to go there and you’re interested in the pricier items, have them email you photos showing your specific items and get it delivered in the San José area, or mailed anywhere in the world.

Or, you can come see it made at the workshop in Bello Horizonte de Escazú, a San José suburb.  It's just 15 minutes West of San José, but it’s best to follow the signs, get the GPS coordinates or download a map from Biesanz.com/map.htm

They will also pick you up if you are in Escazú.

Barry Biesanz says, “Most things are worse than advertised.  I want my work to surprise people as better than expected.”
The wood is dried for an exceptionally long time; some pieces are sanded up to 1000 grit sandpaper; many boxes have the airtight seal that only comes from very exact joinery.

They have been planting trees for 20 years and have a nursery of environmentally useful trees at the workshop.

(tell Barry & Sarah Vicki Connected you!!)
