The U.S. Embassy has created some info sites to help Americans TRAVELING or LIVING ABROAD. Here are some links:
THE MAIN U.S. EMBASSY SITE FOR ALL THINGS TRAVEL RELATED:
It has Travel Warnings • Travel Alerts • Info on Passports and Visas • Info for Travelers and those Living Abroad+++
WHAT THE U.S. EMBASSY CAN AND CAN NOT DO IN A CRISIS
WHERE TO REGISTER FOR THE "STEP PROGRAM"
(the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program they advise you to register with when leaving the U.S. - JUST in case!!)
We recommend U.S. citizens register their travel
plans with the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy through the
State Department's travel registration website. We strongly
recommend that U.S. citizens Traveling abroad enroll in the
Department of State's Smart
Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives
you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S.
embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency.
If you don't have Internet access, enroll directly with the
nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
Download their free Smart Traveler App
(it looks like their app for iPhone and Android is off the market currently)
