ATENAS CHARITY CHILI COOK OFF
 - 2014

WHAT TO EXPECT:
This year’s Atenas Charity Chili Cook Off event will be the biggest yet with an anticipated attendance of over 1,500 people. There will be an array of activities that you can enjoy while sampling upward to 30 types of chili. There will be food and drink sales, event items being sold, raffle tickets for some great prizes, a 50/50 raffle ticket (the winning ticket collects half of the dollars collected), music, dancing, bull-riding, etc.
A good time WILL be had by ALL
(that allow themselves to)!


2014 RESULTS!!!!!
This year they raised about 68% more than last year 
$34,000!!!!

(TOTALS:  a little over $12,000 in sponsorship dollars – which underwrites ALL event expenses, a little over $12,000! +$1,000 in the Koins 4 Kids Campaign! 
They had over 1,500 attendees!
100% goes towards the day-to-day needs of the 35 Costa Rican children living at Hogar de Vida, and will also help to fund a steel security gate at the front entrance)

HOW MUCH:
3,000 colons and allows each ticket-holder to sample each of the chilies and SWIMMING.

There will be vendor stalls selling more food - everything from
Burgers from Uncle Earl’s, along with our traditional fare of hot dogs, chili dogs, chili,   vegetarian chili, potato salad, baked beans, lots of desserts from Kay’s Gringos Postres, popcorn and ice cream.  Sounds like they’ll have a little bit of this, a little bit of that so come hungry!
PLUS massages and face-painting, among other offerings.  

Beer Garden and Wine Booth
The beer garden will be ready to serve cold beer, sodas and water all day long. And new this year, will be our Wine Booth, sponsored by Sabores Argentinos S.A., who will be selling individual glasses of their delicious wines from many of their famous bottled wines. In addition, they’ll also be selling   bottled mineral water. So, come thirsty!

RAFFLES, RAFFLES, RAFFLES
Unbelievable Packages
Once again, their raffle baskets will not disappoint. Last year they had such a successful raffle campaign, but this year, they are ready to blow it out of the park! They’ve got more baskets than before and each basket is valued between $600 and $800. Get ready to buy your raffle tickets for prizes such as 3-day Kayak Trip, 6-person LaPaz Waterfall tour to include transportation and lunch, 2-3 overnight stays at various hotels in the countries, an Atenas package, lots of certificates and lots, lots more. And, don’t forget we’ll again have the 50/50 Cash Raffle, where the winning ticket collects half of what is collected. Bring your good luck with you on the 9th!
*NOTE: You must be present to win these raffle baskets or the 50/50 split. Winning tickets for each  of these will be drawn at 3pm.

HOW IT WORKS:
You buy Tickets which are 500 colones/$1 each and each thing is worth a certain amount of "Tickets"
SAMPLE:
2 tickets (hot dog) to 5 tickets for a hamburger plate (includes potato salad and baked beans - less if it doesn't include the salad/beans).
Beer and wine = 3 tickets  •  Soda = 2 tickets  •  Water = 1 ticket  •  Desserts = 2 tickets  •  Massage = 2 tickets.  Face Painting = 2 tickets.

Raffle Tickets = 1 ticket each
50/50 Drawing (you get 50% of what's collected for this) = 3 tickets for 1000 colones).

ENTERTAINMENT
Do we have entertainment planned for you! In addition to having a DJ onsite playing many different genres of music, for the first time we’ll have a live band from Escazu…and a couple of individual  singers that are excellent! Dancing, too – so come prepared to be fully entertained.

KIDS
For the kids they will have the swimming pool open, so bring your swimsuits. Lifeguards will be onsite, but it really is the parent’s responsibility to oversee their kids while in the pool. Also for the kids (and maybe even you adults) they’ll again have face painting (2 tickets).

ATENAS CHILI COOK 
 CHILI TEAMS AND JUDGING
They have 25 Chili Teams cooking – all vying for the TOP HONOR to claim they have the best chili around! 
The team tables will be decorated and they’ll be ready to entertain and serve their chili! 
They have 16 Judges from Costa Rica and outside of Costa Rica ready to taste and judge all those chili’s.   

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD!!!
Every person attending will also be able to participate as a Judge, too, and will be given a little silver bean to place in a container for their favorite chili for the special “People’s Choice” Award!

DIRECTIONS:

COMING FROM THE SOUTH SIDE
(Escazu, etc.)
Take the Atenas exit from Hwy 27. 
Turn Right after the toll and go straight on the radial into downtown Atenas (5 min. max) then follow the map above.   
PARKING:
Parking is greatly improved from year’s past. Every car will just drive in and follow the signs to parking. They have volunteers directing you to the designated parking lots.

PROCEDURE:
After you’ve parked, come to the top to the entrance.
Pay your 3,000-colones Entrance Fee and get your hand stamped (for entrance [kids included]).
There you can buy your tickets for all that is happening and food and drink. Each ticket is 500 colones. There will be a big sign behind the ticket sales table telling you the cost of food, drinks, activities, and raffle tickets, etc.

HOW THE ATENAS CHILI COOK OFF IS GIVING BACK -
HOGAR DE VIDA
By attending, you are helping to support Hogar de Vida, a local Atenas children’s home that supports up to 35 children ages birth to 10 years old. This year’s proceeds will help to fund a stronger outside security system around their grounds.
