PALMARES is Costa Rica's 2nd largest festival (largest is the Zapote
Festival from Christmas Day till the Sunday after New Years)! This year
they're expecting OVER 1,000,000 people (2012 had around 900,000 people).January • Enero 14-26, 2015

The BIG ATTRACTIONS are the Horse Parade • TOPE which is Thursday at Noon - and Festival Latino Sunday at 3pm - and of course the "bullfights" - Corridas de Toros.Palmares Fiesta has a full program of cultural activities, concerts, sporting events, carnival fun for all ages, carnival food, drinks and bullfights - Corridas de Toros (15 in total) where fools get in the ring and try to catch the bull (it's the PEOPLE that get hurt in the Tico version of a "bull fight"!!), marimbas, modified car and motorcycles show++
Money raised from this goes to priority projects of the Asociación Cívica Palmareña • Civic Association Palmareña for such things as social projects in the canton, schools, day care centers, the Cruz Roja•Red Cross Nursing Home and Fire Department and to help pay off road work.

WHERE IS PALMARES?
Palmares is located off the InterAmericana Highway
It is located between Alajuela and San Ramon off the InterAmerican Highway•Ruta 1 (the highway that runs between San Jose and the Nicaragua border) on the way to Puntarenas
From San Jose with NO traffic it takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. From SJO•Juan Santamaria Airport - about 45 minutes.
BUT . . .
Traffic WILL be a NIGHTMARE!!
This is ESPECIALLY TRUE if you're going during popular Festival hours even to
Grecia, Atenas, San Ramon, the beaches+++!!!
