State-run Costa Rican Electricity Institute is the biggest telecommunications company in the country.
The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) must return 37
percent of the monthly cost of Internet service to 49 customers after a
regulatory agency found the state-run company failed to comply with
contract plans.
The decision came after an investigation by the Telecommunications Superintendency (SUTEL), prompted by multiple complaints received last year.
SUTEL spokesman Eduardo Castellón said the total compensation ICE must pay is not yet clear, as “it depends on the contract plan signed by each customer for mobile Internet service.”
ICE did not appeal the ruling, and SUTEL will proceed to notify affected users. ICE is expected to begin paying customers in coming days.
The amount of compensation will be calculated from the moment customers filed a claim to the date they received SUTEL’s notification.
