ABOUT THE LIVING LIFE IN COSTA RICA BLOG

I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.
VOLUNTEER TO HELP:
Better yet - do you have extra time on your hands & looking for a volunteer project? Since this blog is a labor of love & RARELY does anyone share a donation (even though MANY have said how much it's helped them), I could REALLY use help updating info. Spanish speakers ESPECIALLY welcome since my VicLish can be somewhat limited at times!!

DONATE:
Has my blog helped in any way? Helped find something•brought more EASE? More exposure or business?
I welcome you to show YOUR appreciation for my efforts!
ANY size DONATION is APPRECIATED!
(see below other ways to show your appreciation)
The easiest way is with PAYPAL - Attn: LivingLifeInCostaRica@gmail.com

Bus Robbery Alert!!

BE AWARE  -  ROBBERY ALERT ON BUSES!!

A RECENT PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
BY
SHARON IN PIEDADES!

I want to tell everyone about a specific operation occurring on buses. In this case I was taking a bus from Piedades to Escazu, namely the Calle Vieja bus. As I went to exit at the stop near the Mas x Menos in Escazu a woman blocked the aisle as she dropped her watch and some coins. As she bent over she aggressively pushed me back into the man (and rest of line) behind me. I was forced between the two people.  Just as I was exiting the bus two things happened. First, she dropped her things again as a thought came into my mind to check if my wallet was there. It wasn’t.  The man behind me had my wallet. There was a car directly behind the bus waiting for them. Her dropping her things a second time allowed for the two men with her to jump in the car. She was the last.  I foiled their plan though. The people watching the event pointed to the car as she was heading for it and jumping in.  Their goal was to move into the flow of the traffic on the Calle Vieja and leave. Instead, I blocked the car at the front where the driver would turn into traffic demanding that my wallet be given back to me.  They realized I wasn’t leaving so they handed me the wallet from the back seat as I made sure I would get it before I quit blocking their car. I then moved to the back to take the license number and they left.  I went on to the Escazu police station and made the report.

I did discover they had taken the $60 I had in that wallet, but my passport and credit cards were still there as they really hadn’t had much time.

In short, it was quite an operation—a team.  It’s good to be aware of your things at all times regardless of what’s happening with other people.

EVAN SHARED:
There are many gangs that work the buses in Costa Rica. If someone drops a bunch of change in front of you, you can be sure, that is their technique. You should also watch for the thieves that use knives or scissors to quickly remove your purse or fanny pack. They got mine on this same bus and got the MP3 player inside.

Do YOU have stories to share to help others from having a problem in the future??

ohh, this is really alarming.
Travelers should really take extra careful when riding in some public vehicles.
Serves like a lesson everyone should learn.
