17th Annual
FESTIVAL de la LUZ 2012
Saturday - December 15, 2012 - 6pm
Here are some details on the 2012 event:

This festival is SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!
(reminds me of the Light Parades at Disneyland)
This year there will be 11 floats and 14 bands and are expecting OVER 1 MILLION people (1,000,000) in attendance.
BUT - you can watch it on the local tv channels like Canal 6 and 7:
LivingLifeInCostaRica.blogspot.com/2012/11/tv-stations-news-costa-rica.html
(how I watch it as I'm SOOOO NOT into crowds any more! And getting buses/taxis back can take AWHILE also!
(even though there are just a few floats and bands it still takes like 3 or so hours - it's SLOW!! [hence why Iike to watch it on tv so I can be doing other things in between!]))
ROUTE
It starts at the Gimnasio Nacional•National Gymnasium at the South/East end of Parque Sabana•Sabana Park (note that the West-bound lanes of the Pista/highway are closed [not poz what time] and the East-bound lane goes both ways so somewhere along the way it opens to this). Then it will go East up Paseo Colon to Hospital San Juan de Dios. Then they turn Right and a quick Left onto Avenida Segunda to Calle 11.
Also, from the Museum in Sabana Park all up Paseo Colon and much of Avenida Segunda is lit up through the Christmas season (I think till New Years) so if you can't make the parade - at least take a spin at night (and after December 26 with SOOO MANY people having gone to the beach for the holidays - it won't be crowded!!)
TRAFFIC WARNINGS - AREAS THAT WILL BE RESTRICTED OR CLOSED:
December 10, 2013 - work has started setting up along the parade route so expect traffic delays.
The parade routes (mentioned above) will close down around noon on Saturday.
The highway/pista heading to Escazu - the West-bound lanes (heading out of San Jose) will be close and I believe last year the East-bound lanes (heading INTO San Jose) had one lane leaving San Jose/going West and one lane coming into San Jose but I'm not positive what time that will start yet.
Avenida 10 will have some restrictions late Saturday morning.
DON'T WANT THE MASSIVE CROWDS BUT WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME FLOATS UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL?
Some Floats line up around the municipal building and the North side of the Caldera highway at Parque la Sabana many of the parade floats will be parked.
The afternoon is a good time for persons who want a close look at the floats to visit that area.
