I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.

FIESTAS PALMARES - Enero • January 9-21, 2013



DATES:
January • Enero 9 - 21, 2013

PRICE:
Entrance - FREE
(rides, food, drinks, Bullfight entrance [to watch and enter the ring] and some other things have a fee)
FIESTA PALMARES is Costa Rica's 2nd largest festival (largest is the Zapote Festival from Christmas Day till the Sunday after New Years)!  This year they're expecting OVER 1,000,000 people (2012 had around 900,000 people).

The BIG ATTRACTIONS are the Horse Parade • TOPE which is Thursday at Noon - and Festival Latino Sunday at 3pm - and of course the "bullfights" - Corridas de Toros.Palmares Fiesta has a full program of cultural activities, concerts, sporting events, carnival fun for all ages, carnival food, drinks and bullfights - Corridas de Toros (15 in total) where fools get in the ring and try to catch the bull (it's the PEOPLE that get hurt in the Tico version of a "bull fight"!!), marimbas, modified car and motorcycles show++

Money raised from this (they're hoping to raise around 350 million colones in 2013!!!) goes to priority projects of the Asociación Cívica Palmareña • Civic Association Palmareña for such things as social projects in the canton, schools, day care centers, the Cruz Roja•Red Cross Nursing Home and Fire Department and to help pay off road work.

GETTING THERE:

Palmares is located off the InterAmericana Highway - Ruta 1 (the highway that runs between San Jose and the Nicaragua border).

NOTE:
Traffic WILL be a NIGHTMARE!!
This is ESPECIALLY TRUE if you're going during popular Festival hours even to
Grecia, Atenas, San Ramon, the beaches+++!!!

POLICE WILL BE OUT IN FULL FORCE!!!!
Do NOT NOT NOT Drink and Drive!!!
they'll be looking for Drunk Drivers and people that have not paid their Marchamo!!
