ABOUT THE LIVING LIFE IN COSTA RICA BLOG

I (Vicki Skinner - aka "THE Sarong Goddess") created this blog in 2007 to share DETAILED Finds•Lists•Info•Events•Experiences to help bring more EASE to people living in, visiting or thinking of moving to Costa Rica since DETAILS are NOT easy to find!
I’m NOT an expert (an "expert" 2 ME knows 101%-NOT me). I believe in sharin info•helping where I can! And with over 2,200 entries, so some things might be out of date, so if you find old info PLEASE help each other by getting the updated info & sharing it with me to revise. At least you have some basic info to get you started.
VOLUNTEER TO HELP:
Better yet - do you have extra time on your hands & looking for a volunteer project? Since this blog is a labor of love & RARELY does anyone share a donation (even though MANY have said how much it's helped them), I could REALLY use help updating info. Spanish speakers ESPECIALLY welcome since my VicLish can be somewhat limited at times!!

DONATE:
Has my blog helped in any way? Helped find something•brought more EASE? More exposure or business?
I welcome you to show YOUR appreciation for my efforts!
ANY size DONATION is APPRECIATED!

WARNING!!! BE CAREFUL SWIMMING in Costa Rica - ESPECIALLY with an OPEN WOUND!!!!!!!

I've especially recently been hearing of at LEAST a half a dozen people that swam in rivers, hot springs, creeks, the ocean and even swimming pools in Costa Rica that had OPEN WOUNDS that got HORRIBLE - even LIFE THREATENING INFECTIONS after going into one of these bays of water - so no way in HELL I'd go in those.

Actually - on that note, it does NOT take an open wound for you to "catch" something as whatever is in waterways gets ABSORBED into your skin - hence INTO your body - hence INTO your organs and it CAN cause SERIOUS DAMAGE - even KILL YOU!!!!!

MANY of the water ways are POLLUTED with pesticides (a HUGE issue in Costa Rica!!), from people washing their bodies or clothes and things in rivers, people fix and/or clean their cars and dumping whatever they were working on into the street, some homes don't have proper drainage, sewage (which also mean people taking pharmaceutical drugs and peeing that into the toilets/sewer systems), let alone people throwing LITERALLY WHATEVER into rivers (just drive by one ANY day of the week - ALL over the country), animals peeing/poops that get into the grass and EVERYTHING on the grass just drains into the land or out into drainage ditches or whatever waterway is nearby - ESPECIALLY in the rainy system ++++++ - and sadly, for a country that prides itself on being so "eco-friendly" - there are hardly any real controls on these things in Costa Rica.

A friend was just sick for quite some time and they never could figure out what was wrong but the first thing this natural doctor said to her was asking her if she had been in ANY form of water here.  Sure enough she had.  He prescribed her a natural remedy (I think it was like B12 shot) and the next day she was 80% better!
