Work•Stay•Trade?
Do you have time and would like to Volunteer or do a Work•Stay•Trade -
BUT - don't want to spend over $1,000 to do it??
Here are some options:
http://GoVoluntourism.com - is a service that connects volunteers with hosts and it's FREE for BOTH Hosts and Volunteers to register!!!
http://WorkAway.info - HOST - FREE. Volunteer - 22-Euro's/$27.50-ish U.S.$ for 1 person. 29 Euros/$36.25-ish U.S.$ for 2. I've used quite a few Workaway volunteers and they were ALL AWESOME!!!! (vs some of the other ones out there where people were mainly looking for a place to freeload).
http://StayDu.com - I'm just looking into this but I like that it gives you the option to be a Traveler and either opt to volunteer, pay (up to $20/day depending on the Host) or agree to host them in your home one day. Some are actually paying jobs, amount of time required for working varies as do tasks. Costa Rica is limited right now but it looks like a GREAT option!!
http://CouchSurfing.com - They have a section for Volunteer Opportunities and they're FREE. This is a site where people open their homes to other travelers for free though not all the travelers opens their homes back (I found the majority I saw did NOT at all) and a consistent message I've heard from too many hosts is that many travelers are just looking for a free place to crash and don't always gift back say by bringing food to share, helping out or even cleaning up after themselves so just be CLEAR on your needs and . With that said, I've also had some AWESOME Couch Surfers and now that I'm House•Pet and Hotel Sitting - in between gigs I look forward to getting out and "surfing" myself!!
